Building organic search visibility from the ground up – how content and technical SEO took Plate Mate from 18 monthly organic visitors to over 1,700 in two years

The Challenge

When work began in October 2024, Plate Mate had almost no organic search presence.

In fact, they had just 18 monthly organic visitors and a handful of keywords, with no meaningful rankings on page one for any commercially relevant term. The brand needed to build organic visibility essentially from scratch, in a competitive market already served by established players.

The Strategy

I created a content strategy that combined content and technical SEO to establish visibility and turn it into rankings.

Content
I developed a full content programme spanning new guide and blog content to capture informational search demand, new product and category pages to establish commercial visibility across the range, and ongoing refreshes as pages began to gain traction.

Technical SEO
In parallel, I built strong technical foundations – site structure and indexation work to ensure new content could be crawled and ranked efficiently, plus Core Web Vitals improvements and structured data work to support long-term search performance as the site scaled.

The Results

From October 2024 to 2026, Plate Mate went from a near-zero organic footprint to a genuine search presence:

  • +9,188.9% growth in organic traffic (18 → 1,672 monthly visitors)
  • 782 organic keywords, up from a near-zero base
  • +369.6% growth in backlinks (135 → 634)
  • +417.9% growth in referring domains (28 → 145)
  • Real page-one rankings built from nothing: top 1-3 positions grew from 0 to 5, top 4-10 from 0 to 121, and top 11-20 from 14 to 221

Non-branded traffic (which made up essentially none of the site’s traffic in 2024) accounted for 100% of Plate Mate’s 1.7K monthly visitors by 2026, confirming this growth reflects entirely new organic demand rather than existing brand awareness.
